Arts1 School of Performance: Gemma Crooks

Gemma Crooks

Gemma Crooks is a trained actor and actor trainer. Her work as an actor trainer looks at "conscious" consideration of the actor's individuality, cultural identity, and self-acknowledgment for student transformative learning. Gemma also works as a freelance acting practitioner and director delivering specialised workshops within UK Drama schools and universities. Her practice calls attention to Afrocentric performance arts and actor training.

Gemma is part of a collaborative research practice that looks at the creation of new works and anti-racist theatre. Gemma holds a BA in Acting from Birmingham Conservatoire 2002, MFA in Actor Training and Coaching from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama 2022, Foundation studies in Laban from Laban Guild International Studies 2021. She holds joy and celebration at the centre of her work.
